Silver Star Presents To Di World Week 2 2012:
A name that stood out in Dancehall music in 2011 was that of TJ records creators of “Bottle Party” “Gaza World” and “Snap Back” riddims, it was a massive year for them with riddims after riddims being released and played on the radio and in clubs. TJ couldn’t have wished for a better year.
Another production team that did well and are ones to look out for in the future are JA Productions creators of the “Overproof Riddim” with artists displaying their musical talents such as Mavado, Khago, Supa Hype and the unlikely voice of Daniel Beddingfield. This riddim was a definite winner for the JA Productions team, which quickly became one of the hottest and most requested on the scene.
When Swedish producer Adde dropped the vibrant, upbeat “Summertime” riddim it created a good and happy vibe for ravers, as expressed by Popcaan aka Popskull from out of the Gaza camp, headed by Vybz Kartel. Popcaan’s “Ravin” tune blew up the clubs and airwaves everywhere. Kartel also had a hit on this riddim with “Summertime” to add to his masses of tunes and ever growing success, however Kartel aka Di Teacher’s luck changed with his arrest and incarceration in October creating a freeze in productions from him, although we have no doubts that he will be back and will continue to forward more hits.
2011 saw the release of some brilliant singles from the likes of Jr Gong, Laza Morgan ft Mavado, Assassin, Chan Dizzy and Konshens, as well as the emergence of some young budding artists such as Chronixx a very talented artist who had a hit single with “Behind Curtain”.
