
Silver Star is a UK based Sound System that specialise in Reggae and Dancehall music. The sound currently consists of two members; Gussy (DJ) and Randy (MC).
Through meeting along their individual journeys and forming friendships, Silver Star was officially formed around 1996.They started off playing locally, mainly in the North West London area (where they all grew up). Their reputation soon preceded them as their versatile styles secured them well-deserved respect from peers and elders alike.
This status insured a demand and has surfaced in Silver Stars bookings for supporting top artists including Beenie Man, Sean Paul, Assassin, TOK, Buju Banton, Taurus Riley, Luciano, Beres Hammond and many more on their UK tour dates. They have also played alongside some of the world’s top sounds and dj’s including Stone Love Movements, Tony Matterhorn, Kilamanjaro, Fire Lynx, Mighty Crown and also the UK’s very own Heartless Crew, Roll Deep, So Solid Crew, and more.
Silver Star are very popular within their community as they are known for representing, highlighting and promoting new talent onto the Dancehall scene via an ongoing support campaign consisting of tapes and CD’s, not forgetting their extensive collection of exclusive dub-plates from established artists as well as the new comers, from Sweetie Irie to Jah Cure and Movado to Sanchez.
For the last 10 years Silver Star have been residents at Cameo’s nightclub in London every Wednesday for a night called ‘Uptown Splurt’, where they play alongside 1xtra’s Robbo Ranx and guests. They also play at events across the UK on a weekly basis and are now recognised as an International Sound System with regular bookings abroad including Sweden, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, Austria, Kenya, Estonia and Cyprus.
From September 2003 Silver Star had a weekly radio show, Silver Star Presents…. on BBC’s 1Xtra, which ran for four years. They also presented shows on BBC radio 1, taking them to an audience of hundreds of thousands.
Silver Star currently features on 2 radio stations; London based Unique FM (where their show is available via the Silver Star Podcast) and Homeboyz Radio in Kenya, where they are virtual ambassadors for new reggae music.
